Star Wars Character Names Revealed Through Retro Trading Cards
by Andy Neuenschwander
A short while ago, the first trailer for "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" hit the Internet. It provided some footage of the upcoming film, but not a lot of details...and any speculating over who these characters are was overshadowed by the debate over that weird lightsaber.
Thankfully, the lightsaber debate seems to have settled down. Today, we got some important information as well: the names of all the characters that appear in the trailer. The way they're presented is pretty awesome, too.
First up is John Boyega's character, whom we see in a panicked state in the middle of the desert, wearing a Stormtrooper outfit. On his retro trading card, he's identified as "Finn," who is "on the run." That strengthens theories that Finn is either an undercover Rebel, or a Stormtrooper who's fleeing the ranks.
The girl on the speeder is named Rey, but her card doesn't reveal much more about her. Oscar Issac is playing an X-Wing pilot named Poe Dameron (a very "Star Wars" name) and that Sith with the lightsaber is named Kylo Ren.
Oh, and the ball droid? You can call him BB-8.
Interestingly, each of these retro trading cards have a number on them. J.J. Abrams has verified that the numbers are significant, but he won't reveal why. How very "Lost" of him.
Those numbers are 11, 52, 67, 74, 76. If you have any ideas as to what they mean, let us know!
