Stand By Your Geek: 3 Movies Girlfriends of Comic Book Geeks Can Watch and Love

There is a bad rumor going around that Comic Book Geeks are nothing but 40 year old guys who live in their parents basements and could never get a girlfriend.  This is a vicious lie.  Pure speculation.  Just another way in which anti-intellectuals bad-mouth those with big brains.

Okay, there could be the tiniest bit of truth to those rumors.

However, some of the sweetest guys I know are comic book geeks.  They also make some of the most loyal and loving boyfriends and husbands.  That being said, here are a couple of suggestions for the girlfriends and wives lucky enough to blessed with comic-book savvy men in their lives.  These films tell great stories, have great characters and usually a decent amount of cute boys.  (Hey, trust me, your boyfriends are drooling over Storm's gorgeous curves just as much as you're drooling over Wolverine's rippling torso!)

Speaking of which...

1. X-Men - First a quick explanation: The first three movies ("X-Men", "X2: X-Men United", and "X-Men: The Last Stand") are all part of one trilogy.  The newest installment of the series, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine", is a prequel of sorts to the original series; detailing Wolverine's origin story.  All four films star the wonderfully talented and incredibly FINE actor, Hugh Jackman, as Wolverine.  This alone is reason enough to watch the films (just FYI, he's naked quite a bit in the fourth film).  Oh yeah, and the stories are good too.  All of the films deal with the idea that there are some things that are inborn in a person and trying to change that is futile and backward.  They also look at what defines good and evil.  The heroines are smart and strong.  They even throw in a great love story or two.  These films are sure way to earn brownie points with your boy while not boring yourself to tears, or getting lost in comic book gobbledegook.

2. The Incredible Hulk- A distinction:  Watch the rebooted version starring Edward Norton, (I promise your beloved geek will not mind) instead of the maudlin Ang Lee version, which is entitled simply, "Hulk".  The rebooted version has more action, more story and better acting.

3. Batman Begins (or The Dark Knight) - The new revamped Batman series goes far beyond any "comic book movie".  The two movies in the series so far are plainly and simply great films.  The stories are bleak, beautiful, character-driven dramas.  You're sure to become invested in the characters and darkly compelling story.

Give these three movies a shot and they may manage to turn you into a bigger geek than your guy; although, that's unlikely.
