Sorry Guys, ABC's 'Selfie' Is Canceled
by Andy NeuenschwanderLooks like we won't be seeing the rest of Eliza Dooley's social makeover: "Selfie" has been canceled.
THR is reporting that ABC is pulling the plug on the half-hour comedy, which stars "Doctor Who" alum Karen Gillian as a social-media-obsessed woman who enlists the help of a PR genius (John Cho) in order to turn her image around.
The modern "My Fair Lady" and "Pygmalion" adaptation didn't fare well in the ratings, as it premiered to a soft 5.3 million viewers and a 1.6 in the demo. Sadly, the show has lost viewers since that premiere, despite improving in quality over the first few weeks.
"Selfie" originally had a 13-episode order, and as of now it's not clear whether it will stay on the air for that full order. Currently, the show is on the schedule for its regular time slot next Tuesday, November 11 at 8pm. Past that, there's no indication that it won't be yanked from the schedule immediately, though there's no indication that it will either.
ABC has canceled one other show early, the ill-fated "Manhattan Love Story." On the bright side for the network, it gave a full-season order to the fantasy-tinged cop procedural "Forever."
"Selfie" joins two other half-hour comedies in being some of the first casualties of the Fall 2014 season: NBC announced earlier this week that "Bad Judge" and "A to Z" would not be picked up for a full season.
