Sorry, Greendale: 'Community' Is Canceled Looks like #SixSeasonsandaMovie won't be happening.

NBC has canceled "Community" according to a report from THR. The show had just completed its fifth season, celebrating a return to form after bringing creator and showrunner Dan Harmon back on board.

However, even the return of Harmon couldn't save the series, which has struggled with ratings throughout its run. The fifth season averaged a 1.1 in the demo with about 3 million total viewers, improving slightly to 1.5 and 3.7 million including DVR viewings.

The end of this season was met with yet another social media push from fans, who may have been responsible in part for keeping the show alive this long. A line from Abed, one of the show's characters played by Danny Pudi, became the battle cry for loyal fans: "Six seasons and a movie" was originally spoken by Abed in his hopes that NBC's "The Cape" would stay on the air for a long time.

However, the push appears to have not been enough, though it's more likely that the network's improving comedy slate is to blame for the death of "Community." With "About a Boy" getting a renewal and "Parks & Recreation" up for one more season, in addition to a healthy slate of dramas and the success of "The Voice," there was less pressure for NBC to keep its other comedies alive.

Additionally, the show suffered the loss of two main cast members: Chevy Chase departed the show before the start of season five after some reports of on-set drama, and Donald Glover departed after just a few episodes of the fifth season.

Fans will have to follow the cast in other projects: Harmon's animated "Rick and Morty" has been renewed on Adult Swim, Alison Brie has "Mad Men" and a few feature film appearances, and Joel McHale remains the host of "The Soup" on E!
