Is 'Sons of Anarchy' Spin Off Really Getting Closer?
by EG
Fans of the now-defunct FX hit series Sons of Anarchy can be forgiven if they're confused about the status of a rumored spin-off series that may or may not be coming to FX sometime soon. Series creator Kurt Sutter has been teasing the idea of a new SoA-related series off and on for years. But Sutter has, at various times, suggested that the new series might be a SoA prequel, or it might be a spin off featuring the Mayans motorcycle club from the original series. And no firm details about either of these potential projects have ever surfaced.
Last week, Sutter was teasing once again, tweeting an enthusiastic but cryptic hint that a new series might be about to get off the ground.

FX isn't commenting, so we can only speculate what Sutter means by "return" and "near." But it does definitely look like the project in question is a Mayans spin off and not a prequel.
Sutter has time to work on a new series, since his post-SoA project, The Bastard Executioner, was cancelled by FX late last year after a single season.
Stay tuned for future updates.
