'Sons of Anarchy' Spin-Off is Finally, Offcially a Go
by EG
It's been rumored to be in the making for a long, long time, but the Sons of Anarchy spin-off is finally about to become a real TV show. Or at least a real TV pilot. The FX cable network has given the go-ahead for a pilot for the proposed new series, and the episode will go into production early next year.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that SoA creator Kurt Sutter and filmmaker Elgin James got the green light from the network to produce the pilot script they've written. The series' pilot episode will be directed by Sutter, and it will begin filming in March 2017. Beyond that, there are not yet any definite plans for getting the series on the air. Sutter's last series, The Bastard Executioner, was cancelled by FX after just 10 episodes.
The news settles finally the speculation over whether the spin-off will be a prequel to SoA or a true spin-off that focuses on the Mayans motorcycle club. The latter is true, and the new series will be titled Mayans MC. It will be set after the events of SoA, and it will center around a character named EZ Reyes, a member of the Mayans who is struggling for power near the Mexican border.
