'Sons of Anarchy' Spin Off Adds Olmos to Its Cast
by EG
The long-awaited spin-off of Sons of Anarchy, tentatively titled Mayans MC, has added a well-known name to its list of cast members. Battlestar Galactica alum Edward James Olmos will be featured in the series as the father of the central character.
The spin-off series will focus on the trials and tribulations of the Mayans, a motorcycle club operating near the border of the United States and Mexico. Specifically, the story will revolve around EZ Reyes, a club prospect who has some unfinished business with a powerful drug cartel.
Olmos will portray Reyes' father, a one-time n'ere-do-well who is trying to turn his life, and those of his sons, around.
Mayans MC has been a long time coming, having first been mentioned by creator Kurt Sutter back in 2015. In the meantime, Sutter has seen another one of his projects, the period drama The Bastard Executioner, debut and be cancelled on FX. Rumors continued to swirl around the prospect of a new SoA-based series thropugh 2016, until confirmation of the project finally came from Sutter and FX late in the year.
Sutter has promised that the new series, while set in the SoA universe, will feature an entirely different cast of characters and a markedly different approach to its storytelling.
