Sons of Anarchy Season 5 Episode 2 - Authority Vested - Recap
by Travis
When episode two of season five of Sons of Anarchy starts off Unser pays a visit to Eli Roosevelt to inform him of his recent run in with burglars. In the previous episode Unser catches a beating by three men who's identities aren't all that hidden or secret.
When Unser approaches Eli about the entire situation he goes into depth about a theory that aims to pin down the race of the assailants. It is quickly revealed that cartel involvement is barely beneath the surface.
Unser steers the conversation towards his failed law career; stating that his "blind-eye" mentality to the gangs activity was simply a misguided desire to keep the peace and reputation of Charming intact. Eli doesn't seem to really believe what Unser is saying, but is more than happy to look into the invasion issue.
Eli seems completely uninterested by this string of invasions but heads out to investigate it. After a few short chats he decides that the invasions are most likely linked, in some way, to the motorcycle club. However, since nobody innocent has been harmed, he decides to leave the situation be. Clearly Unser got what was coming to him.
Meanwhile, Damon Pope is up to no good, again, but his plan to see Tig tortured and killed didn't work out as he planned. Up until this point it seems unclear what Pope's real problem is, but he sure has it in for Tig, Chibs and Jax. Tig is ready to head back to Charming with the help of Jax and Chibs. The two leave Diosa to pick up Tig and help him attend to some errands, namely getting his other daughter out of town and out of the sights of Damon Pope. Somewhere along the way Jax decides that his pre-jail agenda should include getting married. Tara agrees to marry Jax before he heads off to jail.
Jax also makes room in his busy schedule to sit down and talk with Nero, the new boyfriends-slash-pimp of his mother. The two bond over shared interests and delve deeply into how the world of Diosa International works; likely one of the most interesting parts of this episode. The part ways and Jax h
ead back to attend to the wedding plans.
Clay and Opie meet with each other and discuss the entire situation that unfolded before them. Opie listens intently then suggests that Clay should rejoin the gang; forgetting entirely about those pesky deaths of two important people. Opie suggests Clay just needs to lay low for awhile; until everyone cools off. Opie's intentions here remain unclear, but one would have to assume he has something sinister up his sleeve for Clay, considering there are a couple deaths that still need to be avenged.
The clubs lawyer is at it again. The man can not even manage to correctly identify who should receive a package. Neither Jax nor Tara receive their marriage license and, instead, it falls into the hands of Gemma who was neither informed about or invited to the wedding. Gemma also openly despises Tara, which makes the news even more joyous. The paperwork eventually gets delivered and Tara continues to plan the spur of the moment wedding. The two get hitched with the, perhaps passive-aggressive help, of Gemma. I guess a mother can't spend too much time mad at her son, or can she?
In the end Jax and Chibs head off to prison to serve some time and Tara is left to honeymoon all on her own. If Pope has anything to do with it neither Jax or Chibs will leave the prison walls still breathing, but neither of the boys plan to stay in jail for too long, and it seems that feeling might be right.
