Sons of Anarchy Cast in Comic Con Controversy
by EG
Fans of Sons of Anarchy were delighted earlier this year when it was announced that several of the series' cast members would reunite for an appearance at Houston's Space City Comic Con. Delight turned to major disappointment when the reunion didn't happen, and eventually, according to reports, the police had to be called.
Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman, Ryan Hurst, Tommy Flanagan, Rusty Coones, Emilio Rivera, and Mark Boone Jr. were all supposed to be on hand at the convention for a meet-and-greet with fans. Those plans fell apart, however, when organizers of the con refused to pay the cast for their appearance and the cast, in turn, refused to appear.
An independent reporter and the Bleeding Cool web site initially said that the con organizers refused to pay for the cast members' hotel rooms, but that claim was apparently not true. It does appear to be true, however, that there was a problem with the cast's payment for the appearance, and that the cast would not appear without payment. There are also reports that the con's organizer called the police during his confrontation with the cast.
Despite the turmoil, Ron Perlman did participate in a panel at the con, and attendees reported that some of the cast, including Perlman and Hunnam, interacted with fans in an unofficial capacity.
