'Sons of Anarchy' Actress Cast as 'Walking Dead' Spinoff Lead
by Andy Neuenschwander
Say hello to your new Rick Grimes!
With "The Walking Dead" continuing to land impressive numbers in the ratings, AMC recently announced a spin-off series set in the "Walking Dead" universe.
The series, which is currently titled "Cobalt," will take place in Los Angeles and act as a sequel to "The Walking Dead," taking place in the days immediately following the zombie outbreak.
Now, the series has officially cast its lead: Kim Dickens, formerly of "Sons of Anarchy" fame, will take on the lead role of Nancy Tompkins. Unlike Rick Grimes, Nancy isn't in law enforcement or particularly well-suited to a zombie apocalypse. Rather, she's a guidance counselor at a school, and a single mother to two kids.
It's been a big year for Dickens, who landed a major role in the surprise hit "Gone Girl" as the lead detective on the missing persons case that the story centers on.
Not much is known of the particulars of the plot, but with the main cast being members of Nancy's family (her boyfriend and two kids), it seems that the story will focus on their family dynamic as they face a rapidly disintegrating society.
"Cobalt" is still in pre-production and has not set an official premiere date as of yet.
