Al Pacino and Katie Holmes Bomb at Sundance

Al Pacino and Katie Holmes Bomb at Sundance As we reported earlier this week, the Sundance Film Festival has been going on for a few days. The stars have been showing their projects off to studio execs, either trying to get major funding or else win some awards and recognition.

The process seemed to backfire yesterday for "The Son of No One," starring Katie Holmes and Al Pacino, when their latest film drew bad reviews and early exits at the fest.

Ouch. Al must not be able to carry a movie with his name like he used to.

From the Hollywood Reporter:

"Anticipation was high for the new work from the writer-director of the award-winning 2006 Sundance crime drama A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints. With No One, Montiel was returning with another gritty New York-set feature and a high-profile cast: Al Pacino, Channing Tatum, Ray Liotta, Juliette Binoche and Katie Holmes.

Though the theater wasn’t full, the room was crowded with acquisitions execs wanting an early look at the film. Reps from Samuel Goldwyn, Paramount, Summit, the Weinstein Co., Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group, IFC Films, Morgan Creek, Screen Media, Miramax and Relativity made it into the theater by the film’s opening credits."

The magazine reported that many of the audience members left before the end credits, in what it described as  mass "exodus."

I hope the stars of the movie weren’t in the theater to watch the exodus of people. Do you think it would be worse if you were in the theater watching them leave or just knowing about it?

Sometimes a person must know if their movie is going to be a stinker or not…but if it was, why did those big names sign on for it?
