'SNL' Melissa McCarthy/Lady Antebellum Best Sketches (VIDEO) Recap
by Andy NeuenschwanderFollowing the previous week's record-setting episode with Alec Baldwin, "Saturday Night Live" had a lot to live up to this week. Lucky for them, they had "Bridesmaids" star (and Emmy winner) Melissa McCarthy lined up to host.
The Monologue
Last night saw Melissa McCarthy as host, reuniting her with "Bridesmaids co-star Kristen Wiig. There was no way that pairing was going to be passed up, so the show started off immediately with a song-and-dance number between Wiig and McCarthy during the opening monologue.
McCarthy's Top Sketch
McCarthy did a solid job as host overall (and drew in impressive ratings, with a 10 in the demo), but her best sketch of the night may have been the Hidden Valley Ranch focus group. Watch as McCarthy gets a little too enthusiastic about ranch dressing:
Best Non-Host Sketch
With the royal mess that Netflix has gotten itself into, you can bet that SNL wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to ruthlessly mock them. Jason Sudeikis and Fred Armisen play the Netflix founders and present their new business plan to us, which quickly goes downhill.
The Digital Short
It wasn't an instant classic by any means, but the Digital Short was still plenty strange and had a great payoff. The wackiness that takes up most of the sketch is pretty funny (though dated... "Stomp?" Really?), but the real laugh comes in the last second or two of the sketch. Make sure you watch through to the very end.
The Musical Performances
Lady Antebellum took the stage to perform their bonafide country hits "Just a Kiss" and "We Owned the Night." Check out both performances right here:
