'Smash' Adds a New Face!
by Shannon KeirnanLove “Smash?” Get ready to welcome another great face to the line-up.
This time around we’ve got Nikki Blonsky to look forward to. She will be a recurring guest star, following the likes of Sean Hayes, Jesse L. Martin, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Uma Thurman, Jennifer Hudson, and Daniel Sunjata.
Blonsky is probably best known for her role as Tracy Turnblad in the film version of “Hairspray.”
No news yet on who Blonsky will be playing on the hit NBC musical, or how many episodes her character will be appearing in.
Blonsky joins a long list of great “Smash” actors, including Debra Messing, Anjelica Huston, Megan Hilty, and Katharine McPhee.
The show centers around the dramatics of developing a Marilyn Monroe-themed musical for Broadway. It has already been nominated for multiple awards, including “Most Exciting New Series” in the Television Critics Association Awards, and a handful of Teen Choice Awards to boot.
Oh and, let’s not forget, 4, count ‘em, 4 Emmy nominations.
Uma Thurman took one of those nominations for her guest-starring role, so Blonsky is signing on to a great opportunity to get her name out there in the awards circles.
Blonksy’s appearance was confirmed by an on-set photograph of herself next to cast mate Wes Taylor. Blonsky perches nonchalantly on a director’s chair, sipping a drink, while Taylor, behind her, rides a fake sheep while wearing a blonde wig while casting longing glances Blonsky’s way.
Yeah, I dunno, either. But it looks like the two were enjoying themselves, and great chemistry promises great acting!
Season 2 of “Smash” will premiere early next year.
