'Sleepy Hollow' Season 2, Episode 3: 'Root of All Evil' Recap

'Sleepy Hollow' Season 2, Episode 3: 'Root of All Evil' Recap Abbie and Ichabod go to visit Irving and find they are barred from visitation. They discover the lawyer's name is Henry Parrish and that he just took a cab.

Sheriff Reyes releases Jenny, as Abbie has managed to get her out with community service, but warns her she doesn't want to see her end up like her mother, who was also in Tarrytown Psych.

Ichabod and Abbie contact the cab driver that took Henry and find he was dropped at a bank. Abbie won't let Ichabod go after Henry as he leaves the bank, but Ichabod is determined to keep him in sight. However shots are fired in the bank, and Henry escapes as they call in for backup.

Abbie goes in and finds an employee there that she knows robbing the bank, and having shot the security officer. She has worked there 15 years. Something strange happens to her skin as she tells Abbie she's going to get what she deserves. As Abbie is trying to negotiate with her, Reyes shoots her. A coin falls from her hand.

Abbie is furious. The woman is dead, and Abbie knows it had something to do with Henry. Abbie knew the woman loved her job and was a considerate lady. As she and Ichabod talk, a man walks away with the coin.

They go over the bank footage and see Henry traded in coins for cash. The woman seems struck by one of the coins and pockets it. Ichabod says he was once on a secret mission for Washington to hunt Shovers, who flooded the market with fake currency to render it worthless. There was a chest of silver coins... pocketed by one Benedict Arnold, who was once a loyal soldier but turned traitor.

The guy who has the coin is making a bomb.

Jenny suggests they speak to a man named Holly who deals in rare artifacts. Jenny uses Abbie's login to break into Reyes' file and is furious that Abbie kept it secret that Reyes knew their mother - and what's more, put her in the psych ward. Where she killed herself. Abbie defends Reyes for doing her job and says their mother was unstable and tried to kidnap them.

Abbie and Ichabod go and find Holly, who wants to come along with them and keep the coin as payment. They go to leave him when he volunteers that it was probably a Tyrian shekel from ancient Rome - Ichabod realizes there were 30 pieces of silver in the chest, the same as Judas' coins.

In a flower shop, the father of the man with the cursed coin opens a flower box to check that his son filled the order, and the shop explodes.

The son is booked, and Abbie and Ichabod note that a quarter was taken from his pocket when he was arrested. Abbie speaks with Reyes, also saying that she knows her mother should have been arrested, but Reyes tried to help her by putting her in psych. Reyes tells her their bomber has a lawyer - Henry. Ichabod speaks with him and tells him they know about the coin that turns people. Henry said the coin doesn't turn anyone, it just brings out what's already there.

Reyes and Ichabod butt heads, and she demands identification, as she can't find that he exists. Abbie goes to evidence and finds that Henry has already switched the coin. He drops it by Jenny, doing community service, and she picks it up.

They meet with Holly, who tells them Jenny was acting strange and stole one of his guns. Given how things were rocky between Abbie and Jenny when they last met, they determine she's going to try to kill Abbie. Holly tells them that if they get the coin, they'll need stained glass to touch it, or it will affect them too.

Abbie has them track Jenny's car, while Ichabod and Holly steal some stained glass from a church. Abbie realizes that Jenny is tracking Reyes, who is hunting. As they look for her in the woods, Ichabod and Abbie argue about Katrina's intentions again.

Katrina discusses Henry/Jeremy with Abraham, who tells her not to bother. She, however, notes that Henry has moved into the home where he was born. She thinks he wants a connection with her.

They find Jenny and distract her from shooting Reyes, or at least try. Abbie tells Jenny that they can't kill Reyes or they may never know what truly happened with their mother. Ichabod knocks her down as she is talking, and the coin goes flying. Abbie is compelled to grab it, but Ichabod kicks it, and Holly catches it with the stained glass.

Ichabod goes to see a random psych patient to play a game. Irving walks past and sees him, and Ichabod discretely explains what has happened. He believes if Henry wants Irving out, Irving should stay in.

Reyes gives Abbie her mother's records from Tarrytown. Abbie reads them to Ichabod - she was tormented by demons, and had to not see her children to keep them safe. Ichabod recalls running into Benedict Arnold one more time, in battle on opposite sides. The two did not shoot each other - Ichabod could see that he regretted his choices.

Holly shows up, after having disappeared, and gives Ichabod falsified ID documents.

In the house where he was born, Henry, tormented by seeing the bed where he was birthed, sets it on fire.
