Six Seasons and a Movie: Hulu in Talks to Revive 'Community'

Six Seasons and a Movie: Hulu in Talks to Revive 'Community' It might not be over quite yet, folks.

NBC has canceled "Community" in its fifth season, after hesitating to renew in the first place, but some hope for dedicated fans remains. Hulu Plus is reportedly considering picking up the show and producing one more 13-episode season to stream on their site. The site is in talks with Sony Pictures Television, but nothing official has been determined.

It's a natural move for Hulu to consider picking up the comedy. Hulu already owns the rights to the first five seasons, and it's one of the top ten shows watched on the site (and the number one show in January).

In competition with Netflix, and even Amazon, to produce popular originals, Hulu would probably benefit from the exclusive offering of one more season of "Community," in a move similar to Netflix's reprisal of "Arrested Development."

So what does creator Dan Harmon have to say on the matter? He discusses in his blog the possibility of a sixth season - but not as enthusiastically as some might hope.

"I have always tried to be as transparent with you guys as possible, letting you in on the process of making (and not making) Community. So maybe my silence on the issue of a hypothetical sixth season seems frustrating. I was thinking I could stay quiet because there's too much to say and anything can become a headline because of the timing...But there are lots of reasons a Community resurrection could be difficult. So be prepared for that."

In his final word, Harmon reminds fans that they need to "let the suits deal with the suits and see what possibilities exist."

"That's the best we can do for now. Ninety seven episodes. Over eight pretty good ones. Mission accomplished."
