The Singing Dead: Silly 'Grease' Theory Gets the Internet Talking

Remember that scene at the end of Grease where Danny and Sandy soar off into the sky in a flying car? According to a Reddit thread, the scene is an indication that the entire movie was a dream sequence taking place in the mind of a dying Sandy. The thread is leading to all kinds of speculation about clues sprinkled through the movie that Sandy - and maybe even Danny, too - has been dead the whole time.

Redditor atomicbolt posted a theory that lyrics in the song "Summer Nights" suggest that Sandy drowned while swimming at the beach during the summer, despite the fact that the song says she "nearly" drowned and that Danny saved her. The theory was first posted three years ago, but it wasn't widely noticed beyond Reddit until now.

There's not much that's convincing about it, unless we assume that any fantastic sequence or scene in any film is evidence that the movie's characters are really dead. Other Redditors have expanded upon the theory, suggesting that Danny is dead, too, and that he just made up the idea of Sandy, or that Sandy killed herself at some point during the movie. This latter theory comes from a misinterpretation of the "Goodbye to Sandra Dee" line from "Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee" song.
