'The Simpsons' Made the Meanest, Cruelest Joke Ever on the 'Futurama' Cross-Over
by Andy Neuenschwander"The Simpsons" and "Futurama" have made a few edgy jokes in the past. But the sight gag they put into tonight's cross-over episode went too far. Too far!
In the episode, the Simpsons family met some of the gang from "Futurama" in the first cross-over episode between the two Matt Groening shows.
That meant a serious bromance between Homer and Bender, an awkward moment between Leela and Marge as the two tried not to call attention to each other's physical abnormalities, and Bender enjoying some beers at Moe's.
But Groening's team also took a chance to twist the knife in Futurama fans' hearts one last time.
Fans of "Futurama" all remember quite possibly the saddest moment in the entire series (or, depending on whom you ask, all of television history). In an episode where Fry uncovers the fossilized remains of his dog, Seymour, from back in the 20th century, we see Fry's past relationship with his furry friend.
At the end of that episode, we're subjected to a heartbreaking montage that shows Seymour waiting years and years for Fry's return, quite possibly until his dying day.
Well, the cross-over made it worse.
At one point in the episode, Fry, Leela and Bender walk through New York with Homer, and they pass by Fry's old restaurant, Panucci's Pizza. Sitting outside, waiting patiently, is Seymour...who looks around just after Fry passes by.
So, it's official. The writers of "The Simpsons" are horribly cruel and we will never forgive them.
