Simon Cowell Saves Nine From Disaster At Sea

Simon Cowell Saves Nine From Disaster At Sea Simon Cowell might hate your karaoke. That doesn't that if he knew you were drowning, he would not lend a hand.

The former icon of "American Idol" and now executive producer and judge of FOX "Idol" prime-time competitor "The X Factor" rescued nine people at sea yesterday after stumbling across a distress call on board his luxury yacht, EW.com and TMZ report.

While vacationing at sea with ex-girlfriend Sinitta off the St. Tropez coast, Cowell ordered his ship's captain to seek out the nine people radioing that their nearby vessel the Slipstream was going down fast. A tweet from the cantankerous personality's lady friend backs up the account.

Well, this was the a day that one of the well-to-do "1%" absolutely did right by their resources. Cowell reportedly sent out one of his smaller boats to find the 35-footer's occupants and when found, welcomed them onto the safety of his own vessel.

Oh, but it gets better: Cowell's crew also plugged the Slipstream's leak and managed to save the ship itself without a single reported loss of life or boat.

Anybody want to call the man heartless now? Yeah, we thought not.
