Sia's Shia LaBeouf Music Video Sparks Pedophilia Complaints
by Andy Neuenschwander
Sia made a big splash on the music scene with her engrossing music video for "Chandelier," which even managed to spawn multiple parodies. But nobody's laughing about her latest offering, it seems.
The new music video for Sia's song "Elastic Heart" is sparking some heated discussion over whether or not the video implies themes of pedophilia.
The artistic video features "Nymphomaniac" actor Shia LaBeouf, looking grizzled and bearded and wearing nothing but underwear, as he goes through a primal and elaborate performance in a cage with "Dance Moms" star Maddie Ziegler, age 12.
Sia maintains that the two actors/dancers in the video are supposed to represent two sides of the same person, but understands how some people might see a grown man, mostly naked, in a cage with a young girl and think of pedophilia. Thus, she issued an apology of sorts on social media.
"I anticipated some 'pedophelia!!!' Cries for this video," she wrote. "All I can say is Maddie and Shia are two of the only actors I felt could play these two warring 'sia' self states. I apologize to those who feel triggered by #ElasticHeart My intention was to create some emotional content, not to upset anybody."
