Showtime Picks Its Shows for Renewal
by Shannon KeirnanFans of Showtime should be happy to see that, due to positive ratings, renewals were a no-brainer for several of their favorite series.
Unlike many freshman shows who have been tanking, “Shameless,” “House of Lies,” and “Californication” will all be coming back to happy audiences.
Showtime executive David Nevins said of the decisions, “‘Californication,’ ‘House of Lies,’ and ‘Shameless’ possess highly distinctive comedic voices, and given that all three continue to grow their audience season after season, the pick-up decision was easy. I am incredibly excited to see what each of these series has in store for their next seasons."
This means a seventh season for “Californication,” a fourth for “Shameless,” and a third for “House of Lies.”
All three shows demonstrate solid ratings for their January season premieres, and positive year-to-year audience growth.
In fact, where most shows are struggling to either bring in or maintain audiences, all three Showtime shows are pulling in more viewers than their previous season… maybe because so many of the freshman shows out right now aren’t meeting standards.
“Shameless” is up 22% across platforms, and its opening episode brought in a cool 2 million viewers.
“House of Lies” brought 1.2 million in on its premiere, and “Californication” managed 1.1 million.
Meanwhile “666 Park Avenue,” “Animal Practice,” “Ben and Kate,” “Partners,” “Mob Doctor,” and “Emily Owens, M.D.,” “Last Resort,” among others, are mourning the success that Showtime has been cashing in on.
