Showtime Confirms The Final Season of 'Dexter'

Showtime Confirms The Final Season of 'Dexter' It has been made official: “Dexter” will be concluding its run with season 8.

There had been speculation of a cancellation for months now, but Showtime was slow to acknowledge the rumors.

Now, however, they have given the nod that will put an end to the beloved serial killer drama. Luckily, to help ease the pain, they’ve also released a two-minute sneak preview for the upcoming final season, which returns to the air June 30th.

In the clip, Dexter confronts Deb about why she has been avoiding him (easy guess as to the answer).

The season features the return of Yvonne Strahovski as Hannah, love interest for Dexter, and British actress Charlotte Rampling playing a neuro-psychiatrist working with serial killers.

“Dexter” marked the first major original hit for Showtime. Ratings have grown for each season, prompting speculation that the network may be reluctant to finalize the show that had become such a sensation. The season finale for the 7th season had a whopping 2.8 million viewers tuning in to see what would happen to their favorite serial killer.

However, with the wrapping of season 6 bringing Dexter’s (played by Michael C. Hall) strange and dangerous little hobby to the attention of his sister, Deb (Jennifer Carpenter), audiences began to clamor for a wrap-up to the series that would satisfy them and bring closure to the characters.

Michael C. Hall’s contract concluded this year, putting an effective end to the successful series. Even Hall was open about his readiness to end the series and find an appropriate conclusion for “Dexter.”
