Shia LaBeouf On Why Megan Fox Left 'Transformers'

Shia LaBeouf, never one to be shy about speaking ill of those he's worked with or the projects they've produced, today told the Los Angeles Times that Megan Fox just couldn't get comfortable with director Michael Bay's rather...direct style when dealing with women.

Fox famously dropped out of "Transformers 3" after a war of words between her and Bay surrounding the release of the second film, which ended in her likening him to Hitler. And as Lars von Trier can tell you, it's never good press when you bring up Hitler. Now LaBeouf has some insight into what might have spurred those comments.

"Megan developed this...woman-empowerment [stuff] that made her feel awkward about her involvement with Michael, who some people think is a very lascivious filmmaker, the way he films women," LaBeouf said. "Mike films women in a way that appeals to a 16-year-old sexuality. It's summer. It's Michael's style. And I think [she] never got comfortable with it."

"This is a girl who was taken from complete obscurity and placed in a sex-driven role in front of the whole world and told she was the sexiest woman in America. And she had a hard time accepting it." LaBeouf went on to say. "When Mike would ask her to do specific things, there was no time for fluffy talk."

Bay is known for his direct approach with actors, which often results in him flat-out screaming at them. This is not an uncommon approach to blockbuster moviemaking - James Cameron, until recently, was ruthless to his actors, even causing "Titanic" star Kate Winslet to declare she'd never work with him again.

LaBeouf has a naturally candid air with the press. Coming off the first "Transformers" shoot, he compared it to war, stating that he'd never been in that much pain in his life. He's had no problem saying that neither "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" nor "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" were very good movies.

So LaBeouf might be the most honest guy in town; you just have to wait a few years for that honesty to come out.
