Shakira, Shania: Is Jennifer Lopez Being Replaced on 'American Idol?'

Shakira, Shania: Is Jennifer Lopez Being Replaced on 'American Idol?' You snooze, you lose, J.Lo!

Jennifer Lopez has been hesitant to commit to next season of "American Idol," as the actress/singer mulls her options for next year. Her slate currently includes her new vocal competition reality show "Q'Viva," plus a starring role in "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and other possible film roles.

But even if she didn't have all that, Lopez might still have decided to hold out on giving "Idol" an answer for one simple reason: money. Lopez was part of the magic that revived "American Idol" in its 10th season and brought it back to its former glory in ratings and audience interaction. Considering that fact, J.Lo could aim for an even bigger contract than her already sizable season 10 one.

But "Idol" has a counter-move: start scouting some other hot singers to bring in as J.Lo's replacement! Rumors are flying that both Shakira and Shania Twain are being considered for that middle chair in between Randy Jackson and Stephen Tyler, who are both committed to returning.

If Lopez turns the job down, Shakira would be an obvious choice: she has major international pull, especially in Latin countries, and likely has a lot of cross-over with Lopez in terms of fans. Plus, while Lopez is "The Most Beautiful Woman in the World," Shakira is pretty easy on the eyes too.

Shania would also be a great addition to the show, but for different reasons. Twain is a country girl at heart, and if season 10's Scotty/Lauren showdown is any indication, there are a lot of country fans watching "Idol." Twain is also a veteran of the industry and could have some quality feedback for contestants, instead of the usual unadulterated praise that Lopez usually gives.

We'll keep an eye on this situation as it unfolds. What do you think? Are you hoping for J.Lo to stay, or would you like to see Shakira or Shania come on to "American Idol?"
