'Selfie' Already Made a Renee Zellweger Joke
by Andy NeuenschwanderWe're going to have to ask this question in earnest: is "Selfie" omniscient?
The freshman ABC comedy aired a new episode Tuesday night, just two nights after Renee Zellweger made her big red carpet appearance that got everyone talking.
Here's the magical part: "Selfie" made a joke about Zellweger in that very episode!
In a scene with Eliza and Charmonique, Eliza talks about the dangers of reinvention. "When you completely reinvent your look," she says, "you run the risk of people not knowing who the hell you are…i.e., Renée Zellweger, who still looks good..."
"But doesn't look a damn thing like Miss Renee Zellweger," Charmonique responds.
Say what you will about whether or not the show should be joking about Zellweger's face...the timing of it all is just impressive.
For starters, since the scene in question was filmed weeks ago (at least), the writers had to been hip enough to Zellweger's quiet public appearances to know what she looked like.
Then, the episode had to be scheduled for this very week, just two days after Zellweger practically exploded the Internet, which "Selfie" producers would have had no idea would happen.
Basically, we're assuming that someone working on "Selfie" has the ability to see into the future. It's the only explanation.
