See the Difference Between Old 'Star Trek: TNG' and Blu-Ray 'Star Trek: TNG'

See the Difference Between Old 'Star Trek: TNG' and Blu-Ray 'Star Trek: TNG' It's been a long time coming, but Trekkies will soon be able to enjoy episodes of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" on Blu-Ray, in all of its high-definition, digitally remastered glory.

To build some excitement, a clip from "Encounter at Farpoint" has been released, pretty clearly chosen for the showing-off of the irridescent glowing jellyfish aliens in the scene. Although seeing Picard's baldness in full HD is also pretty breathtaking.

If you're wondering what the heck took so long, here's what the poor folks in charge of remastering the series had to go through: the series was shot on film and then transferred to videotape (because it was the 90's), so to get the best quality possible, the editors are going back to the original film footage. That means, though, that they have to re-edit each episode back together from that film the same way that it ended up on the videotape.

So next time you find yourself complaining about the late release of this particular Blu-Ray set, imagine having to re-edit the entire "TNG" series episode by episode.

Then again, some Trekkies might consider that a dream come true.
