'Scrubs' Coming to Broadway?
by Shannon KeirnanWell this is unexpected, but a slice bit of delightful.
“Scrubs” creator Bill Lawrence has announced, via Twitter, of course, that he may be bringing his hit medical comedy to Broadway in the future.
Lawrence tweeted:
“Not sure about ‘Scrubs’ movie—we told a lot of stories. ‘Scrubs’ musical in development.”
After fans assumed he was kidding—because it’s “Scrubs: The Musical” we’re talking about here—Lawrence added, “Not a joke. Broadway—going for it.”
Holy Hell just think of the potential here. J.D. and Turk, singing together about the difficulties of navigating hospital life with Janitor and Dr. Cox?
“Scrubs” already mingled a few songs into its typical hilarious cut-away fantasy moments, such as the epic “Guy Love” and “Friends Forever” during the “My Musical” musical episode. Would the songs be included or are we looking at a whole new ballgame?
The show, which retired in 2010 after a nine-year run, had a huge following. Would fans drop big bucks to see their favorite characters back on the stage? More importantly, would Zach Braff be playing his signature J.D.?
No word yet on any production details, or if this is even a sure thing. Here’s voting that the original cast make it to the stage, because it’s hard to imagine someone other than John C. McGinley as hard-talking Dr.Cox, or sassy Judy Reyes as Nurse Carla. And without the amazing chemistry between Braff and his bromance-buddy Turk (played by Donald Faison), what, really, is left of the show?
What do you think, die-hard “Scrubs” fans? Worth your money, or is this another “Legally Blonde: The Musical”-style flop in the making?
