Scary Laughs: Fall Horror Comedy Movies

Between now and Halloween, there will be no shortage of horror movies in theatres. That happens every year. What's a bit unusual this year is how many of the fall's horror films are spiced up with a healthy dose of humor.

Hotel Transylvania 2

This animated romp from Sony Pictures Animation picks up where the 2012 original left off. Dracula's hotel is now accepting human guests, an innovation that doesn't sit well with the vampire's father, who believes that the hotel's previous monster-only rule was the right way to go. The voices of Adam Sandler, Andy Stamberg, Selena Gomez, Steve Buscemi, David Spade and Kevin James return for this sequel. Debuts September 25.

Goosebumps

The TV series based on R.L. Stine's scary kids' book series always had its tongue firmly in its cheek, but this film adaptation promises to turn up the volume on the laughs. A fictional version of Stine himself, played by Jack Black, figures into the film's story, as his daughter and her friend inadvertently set loose the malevolent creatures that the author has kept imprisoned in his manuscripts. Debuts October 16.

Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse

Little else needs to be said about this film beyond what's offered in the title. A group of boy scouts must save their besieged town when they find themselves in the midst of a zombie outbreak. Although the premise is silly, this one, unlike the previous two films, is not aimed at younger viewers. Debuts October 30.
