Scandalous! 'Glee' and '90210' Cause Increase in Prom Hotel Bookings in UK

Parents are always afraid that their kids will emulate the sex and violence that they see on TV. Right now, kids in the UK seem to be emulating "Glee" and "90210," but hotel chains aren't complaining.

The UK branch of Holiday Inn has reported a 500% increase in hotel bookings at the end of the school year. Why the huge jump? The hotel chain attributes it to a surge in American-style high school proms, made popular by US TV shows like "90210" and "Glee."

Historically, proms haven't been a big deal in the UK, and weren't at all widespread until the 1990's. So the American prom tradition--which often involves big parties, elaborate decorations, expensive formalwear, and rented limousines--was unheard of. That is, until "Glee" came along.

How does Holiday Inn plan to react? Cash in on the craze, of course! The hotel chain is planning on offering venues for proms and providing the DJ, finger foods, and champagne (remember, the drinking age is lower in the UK). I wonder if the teens will get discounts on the hotel rooms...scandal!
