Sara Bareilles to Replace Nicole Scherzinger on 'The Sing Off'

Sara Bareilles to Replace Nicole Scherzinger on 'The Sing Off' With Cheryl Cole ousted and Nicole Scherzinger in as a judge on the new "The X Factor," someone will have to take over Scherzinger's former judging position in NBC's "The Sing Off." And so, the game of reality judge musical chairs continues.

So who is replacing Scherzinger on the a capella competition show? Here's a hint: she's not gonna write you a love song, but she'll sit in a chair and judge your singing ability.

Singer Sara Bareilles will be taking over Scherzinger's spot at the "Sing Off" judges' table, bringing another music industry voice to the panel already inhabited by piano crooner Ben Folds and Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men. Bareilles is known for her hit "Love Song" as well as the Grammy-nominated "King of Everything."

I love the fact that on this show, the judges are each so rooted in the world they preside over,” said Paul Telegdy, an NBC programming exec. “Simply put, they can do what the contestants are doing and that means a lot. Sara will bring a sublime technical knowledge and huge appreciation for 'The Sing Off.'"

It is pretty cool that the judges are singers, and not just people in the music industry. Ben Folds and Bareilles are awfully similar, so there could maybe be more of a variation in styles, but they are judging an a capella competition. It's not like there's going to be a lot of world music. Or metal. Or really anything other than vocal arrangements of pop tunes.

"The Sing Off" returns on September 9th, so tune in then to see Bareilles in her new home on NBC.
