'San Andreas' Minus Special Effects Is Hilarious
by Andy Neuenschwander
This weekend marks the release of "San Andreas," a disaster movie about a series of super-earthquakes. The movie stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and hopes to cash in with audiences that want to see cities get destroyed in grand, visually stunning action sequences.
Those sequences might indeed be stunning in the final products, but when you take away the special effects it all just looks a bit silly.
That's what we learned from this video, courtesy of Sploid, which shows some behind-the-scenes footage of "San Andreas" before they added in all the CGI and fancy editing and stuff. In the finished product, an earthquake scene is scary. When you're filming the actors, though, they have to shake around a bit and then fall down for no reason. You can't help but laugh.
There's a lot of wire work, which gives you an appreciation for just how much punishment stunt workers have to go through, especially when they're being hurled against car windshields and such.
Sure, watching this video might ruin some of the movie magic. But it's pretty great anyway.
