'Law & Order' Vet Sam Waterston Returns To TV Drama For Sorkin's HBO Project

'Law & Order' Vet Sam Waterston Returns To TV Drama For Sorkin's HBO Project Welcome back to drama, Sam Waterston. We trust you know your way around.

The "Law & Order" veteran will soon be back to dramatic television, having signed on for producer Aaron Sorkin's HBO cable-news drama pilot, tentatively titled "More As The Story Develops."

TV Line reports that Sorkin and Scott Rudin are co-producing the dramatic project, which is slated to co-star Olivia Munn ("Attack Of The Show" on G4 Network), Alison Pill ("True Blood), Jeff Daniels as a popular cable news host Will McCallister and Waterston as Daniels' boss. Negotiations have also been underway with Emily Mortimer ("Scream 3," "Match Point," "Shutter Island") to join the cast, but nothing has been finalized.

Had he never acted again after "Law & Order," Waterston could have called it one Hell of a 45-year career. After all, he'd already received a 1984 Best Actor Academy Award nomination for his role in "The Killing Fields," then won Screen Actors' Guild and Golden Globe awards for his portrayal of Manhattan prosecutor Jack McCoy on "Law & Order" among his multiple nominations for both awards.

With 16 seasons under his belt, he ended the show as its second longest-running cast member. The HBO pilot would be his first major work since the series ended.
