'Rules of Engagement' Season 7, Episode 8: 'Catering' Recap
by Shannon KeirnanRussell comes in and tells Timmy that it’s a Monster Truck Rally this weekend. No? Bridal expo? Timmy passes again.
Adam comes in and tells Timmy he is in for dinner with his parents on the weekend. Timmy tries to shush him but Russell overhears. Timmy explains he didn’t invite him because he “loathes” him.
Jeff and Audrey eat at the diner. As Brenda comes in, heavily pregnant, Jeff makes “boom” sounds for each step. Jeff invites her to hang out for the weekend, but she says she’s catering a book event at Columbia. She says she has extra tickets, and Audrey decides they will go. She brags about being wait-listed there.
Adam and Jen have dinner with Timmy and his parents, and Adam is told the numbers beside the food indicate spice level. He decides he wants to go highly spicy. Russell shows up in traditional Indian attire, and shmoozes Timmy’s family. He points out he is by himself, and gets invited to eat with them.
Timmy pulls him aside, angry, but Russell insists Timmy’s parents will like him.
Audrey enjoyed the lecture which bored Jeff. She goes off to find someone else to talk to and chats up two ladies. They invite her to another lecture next month. Brenda comes over in a tizzy and says her waitress and bartender flaked out. She begs them to help her.
Adam is having a hard time with the spicy food that he has eaten, while Russell is doing surprisingly well with his jokes. Adam takes their concern as a challenge, and orders the hottest food on the menu.
Jeff is having a good time bartending with an orange in his mouth, but Audrey is embarrassed by him. He points out she is trying too hard to fit in with these people. Audrey brings a tray of food over to the women she was talking to, and one of them takes a shrimp puff. She doesn’t like it and spits it into napkin to give to Audrey. Brenda chastises her for not working hard.
Timmy quizzes Russell on India, but he is prepared. Adam takes a bite of the food and freaks out.
Jeff, meanwhile, is still having fun, and has quite an audience for his jokes. Audrey realizes the apron is what’s ruining it for her, and takes it off—she promptly gets a door opened on her and food smeared down her front. She goes out and demands that Jeff switch spots with her.
Brenda comes up and says she needs 50 glasses of champagne, while Jeff, with a tray, flirts with the ladies. Audrey pops the champagne and it splashes all over her.
At dinner, Timmy cracks. He tells his parents that Russell is just pretending. Russell performs an Indian dance.
Audrey and Jeff help clean up. Jeff tells Audrey he’s glad she doesn’t fit in with those people—their loss if his gain. He also made $73.
