'Rules of Engagement' Season 7, Episode 7: 'Role Play' Recap

'Rules of Engagement' Season 7, Episode 7: 'Role Play' Recap Jeff comes home early from work—he wonders if Audrey has time for a little meeting in the boudoir.

She gets a phone call. She tells Jeff that Christy never got the Knicks tickets he promised her for the charity auction six weeks ago. She notices he also hasn’t filled out the form she told him to do that would put the baby on their insurance. She tells him to do anything.

He says he’ll make reservations at the French place she wants to go to, Dijon. She tells him it’s always booked a month in advance, and he tells her fine. In one month, they’ll be eating there.

So, he didn’t make them, Russell points out. Adam asks how angry Audrey is, but Jeff says he hasn’t told her yet. He still has a day to try to get into the booked restaurant.

Russell gets to his office, greeted by Timmy with unusual cheer. He tells him to go into his office. He tentatively opens the door to see Liz, who greets him “hey, ex-hubby!”

“What do you think, should I bang her?” Russell asks Timmy, shutting the door. Timmy says no but Russell decides it’s a good idea. He goes in to bang her, but Liz tells him she has joined Sex Addicts Anonymous. Part of the program is to apologize to those she has wronged.

Liz tells Russell that even during their short marriage, she was unable to remain faithful. Can she count how many men on one hand?

“Yes, if that hand were holding a calculator.”

Adam and Jennifer come, fighting about wedding cake vs. pie. Jennifer compares it to a “Three Stooges” movie. Timmy admits he has never seen any of their films, and Adam insists he will come over and watch them.

Jeff is on the phone, thrilled he may have a table at the restaurant... only the open slots they have are 4:45 or 11:00 pm. Audrey comes in. She has a new dress for their fancy date. Jeff tries to talk her into one of the odd times, but she insists 8 p.m. as planned.

Adam giggles over a “Three Stooge” movie, but Timmy isn’t impressed.

The boys stew over food. Jeff isn’t sure what to do to protect himself from Audrey. Timmy tells them that sometimes he lies about Russell being a celebrity to get him into places—Tom Petty, or Ellen if nothing else.

Russell goes to meet Liz at the Sex Addicts meeting… for obvious reasons he’s eager to attend.

Jeff comes home, where Audrey looks great in a new dress. He tells her they’re going to make it interesting with role play. He brings out a wig and tells her that tonight, she is Nicole Kidman. She thinks it’s weird, but agrees to try it. Also she thinks he should be Daniel Craig.

Russell goes to S.A.A., but all he sees are dudes. He prepares to leave, until a pretty girl with her bra showing comes in.

At Adam’s, Timmy is finally laughing… at “The Importance of Being Earnest.”

Jeff and Audrey get to the restaurant. He makes her put on dark glasses and sends her to the bar. He speaks to the host about the reservations he made for Kidman.

Liz shares her “darkest hour.” Her wedding day. She felt so horrible about herself, that she married Russell. Liz tries to get Russell to share as well.

“I’m here because I too carry a heavy burden… in my pants.”

Liz confronts him about not being serious about the situation. He agrees, but tries to take home the pretty woman. She says no, so he takes home a less attractive one.

Audrey is enjoying her dinner, and proud of her husband for finally stepping up. She goes to make a toast, when the host comes up with free champagne and realizes she isn’t Nicole Kidman. Audrey storms off in humiliation, and Jeff grabs the free champagne and follows.

At home, she is furious. She finally though he was doing something. He points out that he mailed the envelope on the table, but she tells him it doesn’t make up for the night.

Jeff says he knows what will.

They go back to the restaurant, which is empty, for their 11 p.m. date. Jeff declines drinks but asks for a bucket of ice for his champagne.

Adam and Jennifer come by the office, and Timmy asks what they’re up to—pie tasting. Adam returns the movie, sad they couldn’t find a common ground for comedy. Russell yells that there is a bee in his office, and Timmy blocks the door with an umbrella, making everyone happy.
