Roseanne Barr Apologizes for Being Misunderstood
by EG
Roseanne Barr went on Sean Hannity's Fox News show on Thursday night to explain again that her controversial tweet about Valerie Jarrett was merely a personal insult, not racism. If Barr was hoping that Hannity would totally help her off the hook the way he does Donald Trump, though, she might have been disappointed. Read on for details.
Sean Hannity's primetime show on Fox News is an oasis for conservatives in distress.
On Thursday night, Hannity gave comedian Roseanne Barr a chance to explain a racist tweet about former Obama administration staffer Valerie Jarrett that got her fired from her eponymous ABC show.
Echoing a claim she made in a bizarre video last week, Barr defended her tweet, which compared Jarrett to an ape, by saying that she didn't know she was African-American. "Her skin tone is like mine," Barr said. "I didn't know that she was African-American."
Barr said she thought Jarrett, who was born in Iran, was Iranian.
Hannity seemed somewhat skeptical when Barr said her original tweet was a criticism of the Obama administration's Iran policy.
"You didn't say this in the beginning," he said. When Barr pushed back, Hannity replied, "I'm not arguing with you. I'm trying to give you a chance to explain."
Hannity also asked Barr several times to address Jarrett. Eventually, she did and issued a tepid apology. She then took a dig at Jarrett, saying that she "needs a new haircut." (Barr also said that Hannity needs a new haircut.)
“I’ve apologized a lot. It’s been two months. I’ve apologized and explained and asked for forgiveness,” Barr said.
