The Rock Confirms he Will be Playing DC's Black Adam in Possible Shazam Film

It's official - after years of hinting that he was involved in a DC Comics and Warner Bros. movie, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has confirmed which character he will be playing... and it's not who you may have expected.

Originally, Johnson seemed to be leaning toward playing the hero Shazam (a.k.a. Captain Marvel), but now we know that he will be playing Shazam's enemy and antihero, Black Adam.

Along with a photo from the comics, Johnson posted on his Twitter, "'Kneel at his feet or get crushed by his boot.' My honor to become.. #BlackAdam #TheAntiHero #DCComics."

He did not, however, confirm whether or not this means that a Shazam movie will be hitting the big screen, or if this is indicative of an appearance in "The Justice League" or any other DC movie. Since Warner Bros. has registered the domain name ShazamMovie.com, though, it seems promising.

Johnson is also reportedly acting as a producer, with Darren Lemke ("Jack the Giant Slayer") attached to the project as a writer.

In the comics, Black Adam is depicted as the leader of the Middle Eastern nation Khandaq, a dictator who seeks to protect his homeland.  Not a true bloodthirsty villain, he cares for his people, and will occasionally fight on the side of the heroes.

Don't think that makes him all warm and fuzzy, though. Unlike many of the heroes Johnson has played, Black Adam definitely has a bad streak and is "a huge jerk."

Until then, check out Johnson in the hit-or-miss "Hercules," which is currently scoring a lackluster 61% on Rotten Tomatoes.
