Robin Williams, Legendary Comedic Actor, Found Dead
by Andy NeuenschwanderLegendary comedian and actor Robin Williams has reportedly been found dead today in California.
The story is still breaking, but NBC Bay Area has tweeted out that the Marin County sheriff has confirmed the news: "#BREAKING Actor Robin Williams has died at age 63. Found dead at home in unincorporated Tiburon, CA, per @MarinSheriff."
While no cause of death has yet been given, rumors have been flying that the actor died of an apparent suicide. Williams just recently visited a rehab center to help maintain his long-term sobriety; the actor struggled with substance abuse since the 1980s and checked into rehab in 2006.
The actor has been a cherished figure in both drama and comedy on the big screen in the past. His contagious, uncontainable energy made him the perfect choice for roles like the genie in Disney's "Aladdin," an adult Peter Pan in "Hook," a cross-dressing nanny in "Mrs. Doubtfire" and Teddy Roosevelt in "Night at the Museum."
However, it was his work in television that put Williams on the map. His first big break was in the 1970's-80's series "Mork and Mindy." Williams had just recently completed a season of the CBS sitcom "The Crazy Ones" co-starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and James Wolk.
But for all his brilliance in comedy, Williams was also a genius in dramatic roles. He was nominated for five Oscars starting as far back as his role in "Good Morning, Vietnam," and finally won in 1998 for his incredible performance in "Good Will Hunting."
The actor was in the middle of shooting a "Night at the Museum" sequel, and was set to star in a long-awaited sequel to "Mrs. Doubtfire."
Williams is survived by his wife, Susan Schneider, and his two children, Zelda and Cody, from a previous marriage.
