If this is true, it’ll be Redford’s first film appearance since 2007’s “Lion for Lambs,” although we can also see him in the not-yet-released “The Company You Keep,” which the legendary star directed and stars in.
In general, the “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” actor has been laying low, his focus on directing and running the Sundance Film Festival.
However, the iconic 75-year-old may be returning to the big screen soon. Redford is reportedly considering a role in “Captain America: Winter Soldier,” the “Captain America” sequel due out in April of 2014.
There’s no confirmation on the role Redford is considering as of yet, but it would he would be appearing as a senior S.H.I.E.L.D. member, outranking even Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury.
Other rumors include a character “similar to Gareth Mallory, the character Ralph Fiennes played in ‘Skyfall.’”
The sequel is described as a “political thriller,” by producer Kevin Feige, who adds, “The films all have their own textures and patinas, and that’s what is exciting about it.” It will deal with Captain America (Chris Evans) trying to adjust to the modern world—while Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) returns after the Russians have brainwashed him into an agent called The Winter Soldier.
The film, directed by brothers Joe and Anthony Russo (“You, Me and Dupree”), starts shooting in May.
Evans will also be reprising his role as Captain America in an upcoming “Avengers” sequel.
