Robert Downey Jr.'s Son Arrested!
by Shannon KeirnanSomebody's grounded.
On Sunday, Robert Downey Jr.'s 20-year-old son Indio Falconer Downey was arrested on drug charges. The arrest came after a traffic stop and inspection near the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and La Cienega. Indio was a passenger in the car, but his two companions were not arrested.
The Los Angeles Sheriff Department has confirmed that the arrest was on charges of cocaine and drug paraphernalia possession. The son of "The Avengers" actor was released on bail of $10,000, just after 12:30 a.m. this morning.
Now, Papa Iron Man has released a statement.
"Unfortunately, there's a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it. Also, there is a lot of family support and understanding, and we're all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he's capable of being. We're grateful to the Sheriff's Department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery story instead of a cautionary tale."
Downey Jr. himself is definitely one of those recovery stories. The 49-year-old struggled famously with substance abuse in the 1990's. He performed stints in rehab and jail on numerous occassions, but claims now he has been drug free since 2003.
Certainly his career has rebounded as well. Now known largely for his appearance in Marvel flicks like "Iron Man," many of his younger fans forget or never knew that Downey Jr. had such a checkered past.
Here's hoping that experience and successful treatment will make his son's recovery go that much more smoothly.
