Robert De Niro Accepts Golden Globe Lifetime Achievement Award With Humor

Robert De Niro Accepts Golden Globe Lifetime Achievement Award With Humor The Hollywood Foreign Press Association honored Little Fockers actor Robert De Niro with the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award during The Golden Globe Awards ceremony Sunday.

The award is given to professionals in the movie industry who have made an exemplary contribution to the movie industry throughout their career. It was named after one of the most successful film director/producer Cecil B DeMille.

During an interview with USA Today the award-winning actor said, "Only the strong survive. I'll just keep working; I'm a very fortunate actor. I have no complaints. I've had a good life.”

However, De Niro’s acceptance speech was surprising and made some of the audience uncomfortable. He made fun of the foreign press and talked about immigration which was viewed by some as offensive.

The award-winning actor jokingly said, "Thank you for this extraordinary honor, I was very, very moved and gratified when you made the announcement two months ago, well before you had the chance to review “Little Fockers.” It’s okay, we all have our jobs to do. Thank you for your tireless work in promoting the industry all over the world.”

Then he continued, "I'm sorry more members of the foreign press aren't with us tonight, but many were deported right before the show along with most of the waiters, and Javier Bardem."

Furthermore, De Niro warned the audience to watch out for “homeland security agents who will be checking papers after they are done with the full body scan of Megan Fox.”

After his speech, the actor explained his humor and said, "I ... preferred doing that. There were many ways to go. I thought this would be fun."

Reporters noticed that he didn’t have his trophy with him when he came to the press room and he informed them that the top fell off and they need to solder it.

It seems Mr. De Niro kept the jokes going throughout the evening. Our congrats go out to the actor!
