Ricky Gervais Offended Most of the Golden Globes Audience

Ricky Gervais Offended Most of the Golden Globes Audience Ricky Gervais delivered what the first awards show of the season wanted: buzz!

Ricky was asked to host the awards show even though he is known for his off-color humor. So really, I’m not surprised there is a bit of outrage from the stars that he bashed onstage last night. I mean, why hire a celebrity basher to host if you don’t want your celebrities bashed?

Ricky came out at first and offended several people in the audience such as Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. Yeah, you’re not going to make too many friends when you come out and ask two of the hottest stars on the planet who actually watched their movie.

And the bash list goes on from there. Ricky called out Charlie Sheen on his drinking and partying. He picked on Robert Downey Jr. when he was supposed to present an award. Robert got a barb back though and said via Popeater:

Humble Pie was soon served up by Cruise's 'Tropic Thunder' co-star, Robert Downey Jr., after Gervais made fun of him for his long-conquered troubles with the law and drug addiction.

"Aside from the fact that it's been hugely mean-spirited with mildly sinister undertones, I'd say the vibe of the show's pretty good so far, wouldn't you?" Downey Jr. asked.

After that, Gervais knew he had lost the crowd, and his few remaining appearances on stage were met with stifled laughs and stern faces. A popular Twitter phrase during this part of the show: "Where's Ricky Gervais?"

Did you watch the show? There were definitely many awkward moments throughout the evening.

One of the best was when Tim Allen looked extremely peeved when he was introduced by Ricky. Not sure what the story behind that was…maybe it was off camera.
