Ricky Gervais Requested to Host the Golden Globes...and the Oscars

Ricky Gervais Requested to Host the Golden Globes...and the Oscars After Ricky Gervais insulted pretty much everyone in the room, including the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, during last year's Golden Globes, it seemed pretty unlikely that he would be invited back anytime in the near future. But you should never count out the irresistible draw of controversy.

According to Deadline, Gervais said that he has already been invited back to host the Golden Globes. Not only that, but he was asked to host the Oscars as well! I guess the repercussions of hosting the most mean-spirited Golden Globes ever aren't so heavy after all.

Here are the catches, though: firstly, anything Gervais says should probably be taken with a grain of salt. This is, after all, a guy who is known for saying things for the shock value of it.

Secondly, Gervais has only been asked to take these positions by NBC, but not by Brett Ratner (who is producing the Oscars) and certainly not by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, who has more or less banned Gervais from attending the Globes.

But even if Gervais was offered either job in full, it doesn't seem likely that he would take it. "I couldn't do the Oscars," Gervais said, "it's a thankless job for a comedian."

As far as the Globes go, Gervais praised NBC for their love but seems hesitant. "I love NBC, I love the fact that they stuck by me through it," said Gervais. "I don't think I should do it. What am I going back as?"

Here's an answer for you, Ricky: you're going back as the only guy with the balls to stand in front of a bunch of celebrities patting themselves and each other on the back and call them out on it. I say give it another go! But be nice to Robert Downey, Jr this time. That guy is cool.
