Remake of Christopher Nolan's Memento in the Works

AMBI Pictures,a small Hollywood film company, has announced that it plans to finance and produce a remake of Christopher Nolan's second feature film, the indie thriller Memento. Reaction from fans to the announcement on social media has been almost entirely negative.

AMBI Pictures recently acquired the rights to a library of 400 movies previously owned by Exclusive Media Group, a list that includes Memento along with several other well-known indie titles, and AMBI has also recently dedicated a $200-million fund to new film production. The first project to take advantage of the two developments will be the Memento remake, although no time table for the production was revealed with the announcement.

Memento, a film about a man trying to find his wife's killer while he struggles with his own strange memory loss, was released in 2000. It grossed about $25 million in its theatrical release but has gone on to become a cult favorite.

Fans of the film have questioned the need for a remake when the original is, in their opinion, virtually flawless to begin with and, perhaps more importantly, was released only 15 years ago. It remains to be seen whether the project will ever actually begin production, but the announcement has garnered major publicity for the small and previously obscure film company.
