Regis Philbin Returns to Television
by Shannon KeirnanRegis Philbin—he’s ba-ack!
Like that bouncy old man would stay off our televisions for long. He told us he wasn’t retiring, didn’t he? Call him true to his word.
This time around, Philbin will be making weekly guest appearances on Rachael Ray’s cooking show. Can he cook?
“No, I'm not a cook. I can make a sandwich. To pieces of bread and you lay a little cheese or something on there. Add some mustard. Bang! I've made some lunch!”
So why appear beside the “Week in a Day” host?
"I'm not working that much, but I'm out there. When the call came from Rachael Ray to come in once a month as a recurring co-host, I figured why not. I'm not gonna say I don't want to do your show! I think it's fun. I spent my whole life doing this. I'm not a co-host, I'm just a guy showing up on her show once a month. I love the idea. It's fun to be back on TV when you don't have to do it every day. It's not the every-morning burden."
“He’s more like a funny uncle who is on the set with Rachael chatting and making funny comments rather than a traditional type of co-host,” said a source, of Philbin’s role.
What does he think of his lady host?
"I like her a lot. I've done her show a number of times. She has followed my show here in New York at 10. She has become a friend. Joy and I have been to her home. She and her husband John have been to ours. She's a little dynamo."
Regis Philbin and Rachael Ray? That’s gonna be a whole lot of peppy for one show.
