Katie Holmes as Jackie O? Controversial 'The Kennedys' Miniseries Lands on ReelzChannel

After three weeks of controversy, “The Kennedys” finally found a network that is willing to broadcast the eight-hour miniseries about the life of former President John F. Kennedy and his wife Jacqueline Kennedy, played by actors Greg Kinnear and Katie Holmes.

ReelzChannel, an independent cable network owned by Minnesota–based Hubbard Communications, committed to broadcast the miniseries on April 3rd.

History Channel pulled out from airing the miniseries on January 7, saying that the dramatic interpretation of the Kennedy family story does not "fit the History brand." Early reports cited pressure from the Kennedy family as contributing to the cancelation by A&E, the History Channel's parent network.

Showtime, F/X and Starz also turned down the series. Maybe it's that creepy promo pic of Katie Holmes as Jackie O?

In a statement released by ReelzChannel, CEO Stan Hubbard said "We believe in the business we are committed to. If that means defending the right for well-told and important stories to be seen — then so be it. We're not beholden to anyone.... As an independent, we have the freedom few networks enjoy."

In a separate interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Hubbard said, “This is a project that deserves to be seen. Plans are already in the works for in-theater ads, TV spots, online and a print campaign.”

Hubbard also added that the network will go for a full-blown marketing campaign and that he believes that broadcasting “The Kennedys” will put ReelzChannel on the limelight and increase the network’s ratings.

According to Hubbard, the first two episodes of the miniseries will air on April 3rd. The rest will be aired on successive nights within the week.

Producers also assured the public that they meticulously researched all story and visual points and they made sure that everything used in creating the dramatization of the family is supported by objective and respected sources.
