Reboot of 'Friday the 13th' Reboot to Feature Jason's Dad
by EG
For the upcoming restart of the Friday the 13th franchise, the series will reach back to its central character's origin, and as part of the look at Jason Vorhees' early life, the serial killer's father will finally make an appearance. Jason's dad will join his mother, Pamela, whom we met at the very beginning of the film series back in 1980, and Jason in a long-awaited revelation of the famous killer's influential home life.
The reboot, which is set for release next year, follows an ill-fated 2009 attempt to revitalize the franchise with a remake of the original film. The remake earned just a 25% "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, an unimpressive number that's less than half that of the 1980 original, itself hardly a respected example of fine horror cinema.
The 2017 reboot will try once again to breathe some life into a title that's managed to hang on for through three and a half decades and 11 sequels.
"You're gonna meet Pamela, Elias, and Jason. And you're gonna see how it all happened," says producer Brad Fuller.
The new script will be written by Aaron Guzikowski, who has previously written the screenplay for Prisoners. The project is currently without a director, since David Bruckner left the production late last year.
