Real-Life Character from 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' Commits Suicide

Dr. Fredric Brandt, the famous "Baron of Botox" dermatologist of Hollywood, has killed himself.

Viewers of the Tina Fey-created Netflix hit "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" may recognize Dr. Sidney Grant (played by Martin Short), as an obvious parody of Brandt.

"Tina Fey has blood on her hands!" says Dana Wood, a freelance beauty writer who coined Brandt's "Baron" title. A representitive for Brandt told the New York Times that Brandt was suffering from depression, and that the over-the-top portrayal "devasted" him.

However, not everyone blames the show for pushing Brandt over the edge. Friend and comedienne Joy Behar holds no one responsible for Brandt's death.

"We had a chat about his Sirius show being cancelled," she said. "He was upset about that. Who knows what causes these things? He was alone in the world. He loved his dogs. I don't know what to say about it except it was quite shocking."

Dr. Ellen Gendler, a New York dermatologist close to Brandt said that he was "flattered that he was a big enough presence to be parodied by an actor as big as Martin Short... he knew what he looked like. Those closest to him knew he was battling depression, but that it had only gotten bad recently."

So bad, in fact, that a friend of Brandt's was staying with him in his Florida home to keep an eye on him. However, the guest work Sunday to find that Brandt had hanged himself in his garage.

Brandt, who was well-known for experimenting on his own face, while maintaining loyal clients like Madonna and Kelly Ripa, was 65. Brandt also created a successful skin-care line.

A friend of Brandt explains, "He appeared to be a super-happy guy who was singing all the time.

"In this business, we are in a world of perfection, and depression isn't something we talk about."
