'Raising Hope' Season 3, Episode 15: 'Yo Zappa Do, Part 1' Recap
by Zack WellsBarney surprises Jimmy and Sabrina with their wedding gift. A miniature armoire.
Burt attempts to install a ceiling fan and Virginia enjoys his failed attempts, taking pictures as he electrocutes himself.
Jimmy and Sabrina sit down with Hope and watch “Yo Zappa Do”, a show that Hope is surprisingly fond of. Sabrina and Jimmy recognize the character on the show as Trevor, a young kid who “had a thing for Sabrina.”
Burt and Virginia attempt to hire a day laborer to translate the instructions to install their ceiling fan. They run into Ricardo, the former baseball player, who used to date Sabrina’s mother. She left him and he was cut from his team due to being easily winded.
He helps them install the ceiling fan and convinces Burt and Virginia to let him stay, as he is down on his luck.
Sabrina informs Barney about Trevor, his ex-wife’s son from two husbands after him, and she hopes he can use his connections to get Hope an autograph from one of the girls on the show. He says that he can do better, and that he can get them tickets to the show. And since his wedding gift was a disaster, he will fly them out there, and calls it their honeymoon.
Sabrina feels weird about going on a honeymoon with Hope in tow, so Barney says he’ll go with them, and babysit Hope at Trevor’s while they have some alone time.
As Sabrina and Barney book the flight, Jimmy reveals to Frank that he’s scared of flying. He’s also scared of telling Sabrina, because he fears it will ruin their honeymoon.
Burt and Virginia are awoken by an awful smell, and fear that Maw Maw has passed, but quickly realize it’s Ricardo’s cooking causing the smell.
Curious as to what he’s cooking, they check in the pot. “It’s got eyes!” “Oh god, I think it winked at me!”
They tell Ricardo they need to talk about him staying, but before they can say anything, he says he can tell how happy they are to have him live there.
Jimmy is panicking before the flight, so Frank tricks him into drinking “2% milk, 98% tranquilizer.”
Jimmy passes out, causing them to miss their flight.
They decide to drive there instead. Maw Maw overhears they are going to L.A., and asks to come along, as it was her husband’s wishes to have his ashes scattered in the ocean so the fish can choke on him. Barney invites her along. So Burt and Virginia want to go as well. Ricardo invites himself as well. Barney says they can all stay at Trevor’s, and it won’t be a problem.
They finally arrive, and Ricardo leaves to be discovered.
Jimmy and Sabrina get settled in to their honeymoon sweet, and get dressed up for some sexy roleplaying when they are interrupted by everyone.
Apparently Trevor will not host them, claiming that his pet monkey takes up a lot of room. And that he doesn’t really care about Barney. And since Barney is out of money, and Burt and Virginia are poor, they are sharing a room with Jimmy and Sabrina.
The next morning, Maw Maw is watching the news, when they see that Ricardo landed a job at the local television affiliate as their “hunky weatherman”.
“Our drain at home is clogged with the hair of a celebrity!”
The whole family attends the taping of an episode of “Yo Zappa Do”. When the child actress is unable to perform, the director turns to Hope to fill her place.
“Wait… Is the show over?”
“I think it’s a two-parter. You have to watch next week to see what happens.”
“You mean, like, a… ‘to be continued?’ Do they still do those?”
Cue dramatic music.
To be continued…
