The independent movie was recently released in many theatres in the United States, and is based on the Pulitzer prize-winning play by David Lindsay-Abaire.

Aaron Eckhart also stars in the movie as Kidman's partner, and Nicole actually produced the film as well as starring in it.

The Hollywood actress, who was once married to actor Tom Cruise, and has starred in many other movies including Bewitched, Moulin Rouge, and The Others, has spoken about her role in the movie and how the project came about in the first place.

When asked in an interview how she came across the play in the first place Nicole said: "I read the review of 'Rabbit Hole' in the New York Times. Living in Nashville, I get the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. That's my contact with the city because that's where I used to live and I'm a theater buff. When I read the review, I thought, 'Gosh, that sounds like rich material.'"

She was also asked whether she felt the pain of losing a child when playing the role of the mother in the movie, and replied: "When we first optioned the play, I wasn't pregnant. This has been years in the making, so there wasn't a thought of being pregnant. I thought I'd never get pregnant. But I get what she goes through. I get her relationship with her mother, her sister, God. I get the way in which she is so angry."
