'Pushing Daisies' Might Become a Broadway Musical
by Andy NeuenschwanderHere's an interesting bit of "Pushing Daisies" news, from out of nowhere: like its starring back-from-the-dead girl Chuck (Anna Friel), the cult hit show might find a second chance at life.
"Pushing Daisies" was a high-concept show that aired on ABC a few years back, centering on the romance between a man who could bring people back from the dead with his touch (Lee Pace) and his childhood sweetheart whom he revived after she was murdered. Here's the catch: if he touches her again, she'll be dead forever.
It's a perfect premise for creating a sort of twisted will they/won't they, as you have two very in-love characters who aren't able to touch each other. However, the premise was found to be unsustainable, and the show was cancelled after two short seasons.
Here's where the possible resurrection comes in: in an interview about the Blu-Ray release of "Little Shop of Horrors," Ellen Greene (who played Aunt Vivian on "Daisies," and Audrey in "Little Shop" so many years ago) mentioned the possibility of "Pushing Daisies" becoming a broadway musical.
"Actually, there's been talk of a version of it -- I'm not supposed to say anything! A possibility... A possibility of stage," she told MTV. "I would love for Vivian to exist again."
When you think about it, a musical version makes perfect sense. The show stared Greene and Broadway superstar (and "Glee" guest star) Kristen Chenoweth, both of whom sang on the show on occasion.
So, keep your eyes peeled for the Pie Hole on Broadway in the near future!
