PS 22 and Katy Perry Explode on Oprah

PS 22 and Katy Perry Explode on Oprah Could Staten Island’s PS 22 Chorus be the real-life “Glee”?

Like true “fireworks” the young choir has practically exploded into the spotlight, following their debut at the Academy Awards with a performance of their YouTube hit (and Katy Perry cover) on Oprah.

The kids began to sing during Oprah Winfrey’s Oscar special Monday.  With a crescendo, “You just gotta ignite the light. And let it shine. Just own the night. Like the Fourth of July.”

Suddenly a more mature voice could be heard, sounding a lot like the song’s originally singer. With that, the curtain rose and out popped Perry like a bottle rocket in a shimmering gold dress, with purple sash.

Perry, who missed the Oscars, flew overnight from her tour in Vienna to perform with the children, per Oprah’s request.

Who can blame her? When Oprah calls you never know what bounty may follow. The children were given also given Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet computers courtesy of show sponsor Sprint.
